This year to celebrate being the longest running film festival in Milwaukee we've expanded to four days, which means more great local, national and international films for you to see and enjoy!

Created by local and independent filmmakers, the Milwaukee Short Film Festival is proud to provide local talent with a venue for their work to be seen. Through community support, we are also able to offer one of the largest first prizes around ($1,000) .

We're also thrilled that MSFF was named 'Best Local Festival' by Moviemaker magazine (winter '06)

A young auteur embarks on a journey via dirigible, to bring media to weary workers

Justin Bosar functions as Backlot Imaging's production supervisor and principal operator. He supervises work on both 2D and 3D graphics and animations for video, film, and interactive applications. Bosar earned an undergraduate degree at Marquette University, with a major in Broadcast and Electronic Communication and a minor in Computer Science. He enjoys science-fiction applications of visual effects, as well as entertainment software development. Bosar currently resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A Manhattan man subconsciously relives the events of 9/11.

A Warsaw native Pawel worked as a software designer for Wall Street before studying filmmaking. This is his postgraduate directorial debut.

An experimental video following the journey of a 17 year Cicada.

Eric Gerber was awarded the grand prize in 2004 for his film 'Aldara', he currently lives in Los Angeles where he continues to make his short films.

Owen grew up in the San Francisco bay area, and worked most of his life as a musician. Recently he began working as an actor which lead to filmmaking.

Two people from two countries who once shared a common experience.

Aaron conceived this film while taking part in the 'Objectives Filmmaker Residency' program in Singapore. Currently Aaron is developing his feature film 'Triple Happiness.'

Weeds by Aurum Design

A strong female character discovers the power of words in a numinous book garden. This was created for the 48 Hour Film Project and has reached as far as the Cannes Film Festival.

Owners/principal designers Ken Kornacki and Nellie Hoffman formed Aurum, a pioneer in motion design for film, television and commercial productions, in 2003.

Drip by Craig A. Knitt

2 minutes Marion, WI

A series of intricate events are placed into motion by a slowly dripping faucet.

Craig’s previous film, 'The Egg' was screened at our 8th festival. Craig is also a founding member of the Wildwood Film Festival held in Appleton. He also teaches Fine Art in his hometown of Marion, Wisconsin.

The Whole Truth by Gerald Guthrie

8 Minutes Urbana, Ill

An animated work that analyzes aspects of human interaction by decontextualizing individual contributions to an 'overly polite' conversation.

Gerald received his BFA from UWM in 1973; currently he’s an Associate Professor in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign.

Otto’s Day by Jisun O

An ordinary day in the life of an old man who lives alone in a city apartment.

Ji-Sun Oh was born in 1975, South Korea and got her B.A. for Fine Arts at Kyunghee University. She presently attends the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and is working towards an MFA in film.

A middle age man, his son and daughter in law explore love and perversion in 700 square feet of space.

Andrew is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) film program. He resides in New York and works at Cineric Inc. restoring/preserving films. His previous film Sans Supervision was screened at our 8th festival.

Victim by R. Michael Gull and Jason Williams (Adult content)

18 minutes Milwaukee, WI

Victim is the brainchild of stand up comic/writer/actor R. Michael Gull. First written by Gull as a short story in 1993, Victim is the tale of Vincent, a man whose concept of love is, shall we say, a bit skewed. He's not a monster. As a matter of fact, he could be your neighbor, your mechanic, or your child's teacher. He could be that guy with the flat tire on the side of the road, or the one behind you at night at the ATM.

After sitting on a shelf for over a decade, Victim has been fine tuned into a movie. This dark, disturbing tale is being told with director Jason Williams at the helm and cinematography by Michael Kubaszak. Featuring still photography by renowned photographer Jim Steinfeldt, and original songs written and performed by Olivia Barash (Repo Man, Tuff Turf, Little House on the Prairie, Fame, The Doors) and Binky Tunny. Film score by Brian Jones.

R. Michael Gull is an actor. In 2007 he appeared in the Tate Bunker film 'Perceval' and in 2008 you can see him in 'Victim' 'Indefinite', 'Haunted' and more. He is currently in production on a sci/fi thriller, 'Dust' and is in pre-production on another feature film to be released in 2009. This season you can see Michael on the new TV series 'Family Practice', on the Lifetime Network, as well as the final season of the NBC series 'ER'. Also a writer, Michael writes screenplays, has a catalog of over 100 recorded songs, contributes the blog 'Messiah Simplex' to the online edition of VITAL Source magazine and writes short stories.

Jason Williams is a full time student working towards a career in feature films. His previous film 'Meniere's Disease' was screened at the Wisconsin Film Festival, Wildwood Film Festival, WILDsound Film Festival and the Southside Film Festival.

Bigboy_74 by Tom Marshall (Adult content)

A case of mistaken identity leads to suicidal Harry receiving a crash course in 'dogging'.

Tom started making films when he was 17, he went on to graduate from Teeside University.

Lark Slaughters Spooksmodel Competition

Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors 2008

As twilight slowly withered away the light of a Los Angeles Sunday, life still whispered within the body of the 2008 Fangoria Weekend of Horrors. Fans daydreaming eager visions of macabre beauty, harvested into the main ballroom of the Los Angeles Convention Center to witness the first ever Fangoria Spooksmodel contest.

Upon the stage, beauty embodied within an octonary of female flesh to stand before judge and jury. Each of the eight contestants endeavored to prove worthiness of wearing the crown of Fangoria Spooksmodel. One by one each answered questions, modeled a pose or two, and performed a one minute routine before a jury consisting of Ken Foree, John Gulagar, and Tony Timpone. Lest we forget an eager audience of horror fanatics surrounded by female flesh on its best, and sometimes erotic, behavior!

The eight contestants performed to the best of their abilities, demonstrating that each were well deserved to grace the Fangoria stage. Yet with all challenges, only one may walk away victorious. That one winner, clothed in scarlet dress and wielding a chainsaw, was Shannon Lark.

Shannon Lark of course is more than a blood splattered scream queen swinging power tools. She is a multidimensional creature. Shannon Lark is the cyber boss brains behind the horror website The Chainsaw Mafia, a place catering to information and networking for fledgling creative artists. Shannon also is a writer and director in the genre, spearheading the all female oriented Viscera Film Festival. One cannot chronicle Shannon Lark without summoning from the grave her involvement with the Living Dead Girlz, a female zombie dance troupe. Beneath all of the chainsaws, blood, zombies, and gore, she is perhaps one of the genres first horror activists. Shannon is on the front lines of the battle to advance the role of women in horror, something that is obviously being well embraced by fans and the genre in general.

As winner of the 2008 Fangoria Spooksmodel competition, Shannon will appear within all of the 2008-2009 Fangoria Weekend of Horror conventions, grace the pages of Fangoria magazine, and perform a Coffin Case photo shoot. It is quite a sweet prize. This success in reality is not just for Shannon Lark., it is a victory for all women hoping to bleed their name within the genre of horror.

Casting Call Racine 5-4-08

Casting call for "Resurrections" are being held for actors and crew members on Sunday, May 4th from 4pm-7pm at the JavaVino Coffee Shop, 424 Main Street, Racine WI 53403.

Looking for cast and crew. Must be 18; proof of age required.

Principal cast and crew will be paid. Intern openings for crew and P.A.
Scripts will be provided or bring a one-minute monologue.

Director P.J. Macomber will make final casting choices.
